Boys Next Door is a series by Kaori Yuki about a young elementary school teacher named Adrian and a 14 year old prostitute Lawrence. As a young boy his mother, who had been raped there by a clown and impregnated with him, abandoned Adrian at a carnival. After three days wandering, the young Adrian managed to find home. What he saw when he arrived was his mother admitting to be a prostitute, and then being killed by her lover. Adrian remained with the body a few days, scratching out the eyes of her and anything else in the house that could 'see' him.

Fast forward to Adrian as a grown man, working as an elementary school teacher by day and the 'blind killer' by night. He seeks out male prostitutes, whom he sleeps with and then kills. The name 'the blind killer' was given to him because, as he did with his mother, he stabs their eyes out.

One night, after killing a young boy, he turns to find someone watching him. As he flees, he drops the tag he had just had made for his pet lizard Wolfgang, which had his address on it. The next day in class, a young boy walks up to him and holds out the tag. He tells everyone that he is Adrian's younger brother Lawrence. Lawrence refuses to give him back the tag, and gives him a card of where to meet him that night. Adrian is livid with fear, scared that Lawrence will turn him in, but also a bit intrigued as to why he had yet to. The address Lawrence has given him is one to a brothel that he works in, and Adrian is horrified that he is a young prostitute. Lawrence confides in him that he wants to run away and he wants Adrian to help him, but Adrian thinks that Lawrence is only after his money. Throwing all that he had at Lawrence, Adrian runs home, convinced that he has to kill Lawrence to protect his secret.

The following day, Adrian sees a girl from his class getting into trouble by a shop owner for stealing a music box. He offers to pay for it to keep her out of trouble, but then remembers that he gave all of his money to Lawrence. As if by magic, Lawrence appears there holding out the money to pay for the box. Adrian takes Lawrence home with him, where Lawrence gives him back his money. It's that moment that Adrian wonders if it's all right for him to allow Lawrence to live a little while longer. Adrian loves Lawrence's eyes, first because they were so emotionless, and next because he feels that they see right through him. Lawrence explains why he is a prostitute, stating that though he hated it he also liked it, and he requested that if ever Adrian killed him, he wished to be eaten too. That way, he could belong to no one but Adrain. They make love, and Adrian tells Lawrence the story of his childhood. Afterwards, Lawrence convinces him that it is not the prostitutes that Adrian is killing, but his own self, and he didn't have to kill himself anymore.

And the killings did stop.

Lawrence and Adrian lived together and were in love. Everything seemed to be going well for them until Lawrence's old pimp (and brother), found where he was and sent his men to collect Lawrence. Injecting Lawrence with poison, he ordered him to go kill Adrian, who he had already figured out himself was the blind killer. Adrian returned to Adrian with a gun and note. The note, he said, was an order to return to his brother and he also had to kill Adrian. Adrian finally ran at Lawrence and stabbed him. As Lawrence lay there dying, Adrian saw that the note was blank and the gun had no bullets. Adrian had wanted to die at Adrian's hands so that he wouldn't have to return to his brother or kill Adrian himself, and he tricked him into doing it.

Adrian was caught for Lawrence's murder, and because of his childhood they sentenced him to life. He freaked out, screaming that he wanted to be where Lawrence was. Eventually, the staff started to let him sit on the roof outside, since it seemed to improve his condition and make him happy. One day while sitting there, he looked up and saw Lawrence hovering over the edge holding balloons. Jumping to embrace him, they kissed. But as they kissed, Adrian fell from the roof to his death.
